Remember that no question is insignificant. It may be helpful to bring a written list of concerns to discuss. Here are a few issues to keep in mind.

  1. Am I up-to-date on my vaccinations and tests?
  2. If a test is needed, what are its benefits and risks?
  3. If I’m given a prescription, what is the medicine for?
  4. Does the new prescription mean I should stop taking other medicines?
  5. Does the new medicine have side effects, and if so, when should I tell someone about them?
  6. To save money, can I take a generic version of the medicine?
  7. Is there any activity or food I must avoid while taking the medication?
  8. Can I take vitamins with the prescription?
  9. What is the technical name of my disease or condition? Please explain it to me as simply as possible.
  10. Does my health plan cover my visit and all the recommended tests and treatments?
